Haute Finds for a Hot Summer

July 12, 2012

The temperature is steaming and the sun is blazing…in this weather, it’s not always easy to feel comfortable all day, let alone stylish.  So this week we braved the heat and headed to local stores to find some of the best garments to keep you cool and looking fab through the dog days of summer.

The Maxi Dress

You really can’t go wrong with a good maxi. Not only does the long design flatter many body types, the flowy fabric also feels breezy in the sun or shade. Plus, it’s such a hot item you can find it in various colors and styles to suit your personal taste.
For stripe-lovers, we found these fabulous frocks at The Purple Goose in Verona. Not only are they light and airy, these striped options are a great way to add a nautical flair to your look.

We also loved their strapless ruffle dresses. A flirty and feminine option, they look great for a casual date night or out with friends when topped with an eye-catching accessory.

Light Accessories

No matter how much you love dressing up your look with accessories, the last think you want to do in the heat is pile on too much stuff. That’s why we love these simple yet jazzy accessories from A Stone’s Throw. A grown-up version of classic wrap bracelets, these beauties were crafted by local artist Leah Schaefer of LeeBeeJewelry. Wrap bracelets are a hit this season for being both simple and unique and they are an easy way to add a pop of cheer to your casual summer look.

We also fell in love with these pendant necklaces. The vibrant colors and fun designs add the perfect personal touch and can be as casual or as dressy as you want.

Summer Wedges and Colorful Flip Flops

You’ve got your ensemble set, the right accessories on top and now to complete your look you need the perfect pair of footwear. This season there are plenty of airy and stylish options when you want to add a trendy touch to your outfit.

One of the popular choices we found at local shoe store Shoo was the chunky wedge in a nude hue. Wedges are great for being both comfortable and a little easier to strut down the street in than heels. They also elongate your legs and look great with either shorts or a breezy skirt. Plus, a nude-colored shoe is a great way to anchor a brightly colored ensemble.

But when you want something a little more casual, there’s nothing wrong with reaching for a pair of comfy flip-flops. And at Shoo they also had a colorful array of options that give an otherwise simple look an exciting twist.
