Spotted: Show-stopping Accessories
Recently, while scouting for this season’s hottest trends around town, we stumbled upon a line of earrings that instantly caught our eye. (Check out BRAVA’s other fashionable finds in September’s “Shopping Guide” feature, on stands this Monday!) Bright and bold, these handmade earrings are sure to “Wow” and are so unique, we decided to find out more about their designer, Ashley Kolln.
All feather earrings, $30 per pair
It all started with a headband for Kolln. A recent graduate of the apparel design and development program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Kolln launched her own line of accessories after a headband she made for herself was a hit with friends and she received requests to make more. Inspired to keep the momentum, she branched out, fashioning different accessories with bold appeal and ATOMIK BOMB—the name of her line—was born.
ATOMIK BOMB has since grown to include accessories that add a chic and colorful touch to any part of an ensemble—from necklaces and scarves to ankle wraps and armbands (or even custom-designed pieces for weddings and special occasions), and more. Hand-made in her home studio, Kolln uses a range of adventurous materials including feathers, fringe, velvet ribbon, leather, lace, studs and chains. Bold and edgy, Kolln designs with fashion history, movies and costumes as her inspiration. Through ATOMIK BOMB, Kolln says she strives to create “wearable art” for her customers. And while Kolln has developed a signature style, most of her accessories are one-of-a-kind.
Wondering how to pull off such daring accessories? Don’t worry. These earrings aren’t just for the birds! Pair ATOMIK BOMB’s long feather and fringe earrings with everyday basics—such as the classic ensemble of jeans and a T-shirt or button-up—for a chic boost that will be noticed. If you have long tresses, let them hang down so the feathers or fringe can peek out from behind your hair, adding a glamorous touch to an easy hair style.
ATOMIK BOMB can be found at Shoo, who carries the ever-expanding line at both their Milwaukee and Madison locations.
