Maxwell Street Days: A Sunny Sidewalk Sale
We love steals and deals that benefit our closets and don’t leave our wallets bare. It seems like the warm summer months, though they can be sticky and sweaty, bring out the greatest fashion inspirations. For us, it’s the time to experiment with new looks and grab all the fall fashions before they reach the top of everyone’s wish lists.
Maxwell Street Days is downtown Madison’s Summer Sidewalk Sale and is essentially the picture perfect time to snag great bargains. State Street’s 350 shops and boutiques spill into the sidewalks for what is one of the best shopping weekends in Madison. There is a guarantee you will find great prices on clothing, jewelry, artwork, books and more.
Madisonites have Chicago to thank for State Street’s sidewalks being engulfed into a bargain paradise for the 33rd year in a row. Maxwell Street in Chicago was home to a famed outdoor market from 1871 to 1994 and in 1975, Martin’s, a local Madison clothing and tailor shop (anyone remember it?), launched the modern day Maxwell Street Days that all of us to enjoy.
