Ask a Man: Gifts for Your Guy

December 2, 2010

Dear Dustin,

I am sick and tired of getting my husband a tie for Christmas. Any suggestions?

-Jane, 35; Middleton

Let me tell you, as men we are sick and tired of receiving ties, gift cards and the like.  For once we would love to come downstairs and find something other than a skinny box that inevitably holds another Christmas tie, or worse–a tiny box or envelope that contains a thin plastic gift card.  So to help men everywhere, here is a list of items that any red-blooded American male should enjoy.

The first thing I would do is go to The Tasting Room on Monona Dr.  Let Bryant or Kevin help you find a cigar that fits your man’s tastes.  Many Cigar companies offer gift boxes, usually they have 3- or 4-cigar sample pack. I would highly recommend La Flor Dominica or Rocky Patel cigars. Both are fantastic.  While you are there find a specialty scotch or whiskey to accompany the cigar, or perhaps a nice bottle of wine for you both to enjoy.

My next idea would be to get him a warm pair of slippers from the nice folks at Morgan Shoes inside Hilldale Mall.  They have many selections to choose from, and they are very helpful and accomodating.

If your man is still just a big kid (we all are!) get him an XBOX 360 with kinect, a new product that is similar to the Nintendo Wii but your body is the controller.

These are just a few ideas, I hope they were helpful. Just go out there and buy something that shows how much you love him and how much you care.  And remember if you have any questions that may need a man’s input, just email me.
