Frugal Fashionista: Makeup that Pulls Double Duty

November 4, 2010

I don’t know about you, but my closet is full of extra beauty products I’ve collected over time. In hopes of simplifying my routine, I’ve been on the hunt for products that either do more, or replace a selection of individual products. Without further adieu, here are a few products that work in more ways than one to give you more for your investment:

Double Duty Product #1: Aveda’s Nourish-Mint™ Lip Definer:
Currently, this is Aveda’s only lip liner.  It is a smooth and moisturizing liner, with organic spearmint and vanilla (yum!) that will both keep your lipstick from feathering and last longer.  It’s also designed to smooth and plump your lips over time.  But the best part? It works with every color you own! I know, I was amazed as well. The liner is completely colorless, so say goodbye to the days of buying a new liner to match each color of lipstick and then having that lovely ring around your mouth once your lipstick wears off. And for an added bonus, the wood used in the pencil is approved by the Forest Stewardship Council so you don’t have to worry about tons of trees being chopped down to get your product.  Find it here or at Aveda West Towne Mall.

Double Duty Product #2:  Color Options™ Eye Shadow Transformer
This liquid is magical, and I’ve found a few great ways to use it. Create a great eyelid primer by placing a small drop on your fingertips or makeup brush and brushing it across your eyelids. You eye color will be instantly more intense and last longer. You can also transform a powder eyeshadow into a cream shadow or even a liquid eyeliner by blending a drop with your shadow. It’s safe for contact lens wearers and comes with a small brush that makes lining your eyes a cinch. The best thing about the Transformer is that it can be used with any brand of eye shadow. I’ve also tried it with a bit of blush to make a cream blush! Find it here.

Comment if you get a chance to try these products, I’d love to hear how they worked for you.  Next week, I’ll report back on a few double-duty products to help smooth and boost your complexion. Have a great week!
