The Trendsetter: Zippers

September 14, 2010

The majority of people think of zippers strictly as a way to fasten their clothing; a trendsetter on the other hand sees the ingenuity of the zipper as the next big fashion statement. I like to look at zipper detailing as the extra touches that make an outfit special and unique; just like the woman wearing it. The zipper trend can range from being over the top to a more subtle detail for every-day-wear.

One of the bolder pieces I found that showcased the zipper trend was this necklace from Boston Store. Because this necklace is a statement piece on its own, it is best to wear this necklace with a simple top or dress. This way, the necklace will speak for itself without anything else distracting an admirer from the trend.

If the the zipper necklace isn’t your taste, try finding a nice leather bag with zipper accents. Zipper detailing on bags is a chic, new trend. If you stick with a purse that has a modern shape and zipper detailing you will get more use out of this bag from season to season.

I spotted a woman on the street that was wearing the zipper trend in the most sophisticated and professional way. From the front she was a classically dressed businesswoman but when she turned around, her exposed zipper slit was an added touch to her outfit. When I talked to her she said that she has no casual Fridays so every day she dresses up and has fun with her looks.

Kathie shows that you don’t have to go over the top when wanting to try out a new trend. If you want to make a statement, go for a zipper necklace. Or you can always just add an extra touch of this trend to your outfit. Whatever you do, stay true to yourself when it comes to your style.
